Abstract

The idea of Communication as a phenomenon with a transversal nature has contributed to a wider recognition of its relevance in scientific terms. Plural by definition, the field of Communication Sciences faces today, however, the challenge of conciliating the contributions of different areas of knowledge with a necessary epistemological affirmation. Academic associations of Communication, such as Sopcom (Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences) have, in this context, the complex mission of creating community in a competitive system and creating identity in a multidisciplinary environment.
