Abstract

This review presents the work “Transition Angles: essays on latin american and portuguese world cinema”, by Prof. Dr. Sebastião Guilherme Albano, published by the UFRN publishing house (EDUFRN) in 2024. Albano proposes an analytical and sensitive reading in eight essays dedicated to latin american and portuguese cinema, based on approaches that articulate aesthetics, politics and temporality. Through a critical path that problematizes the place of cinema in the globalized world and its capacity to resist cultural homogenization, the author analyzes works that challenge traditional forms of narrative and representation, privileging fragmentation, opacity and listening to the margins. The book stands out for its committed criticism, which considers cinema as a practice of thought, as a political gesture and as a device of memory and reinvention.
