This article presents the actions developed at the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), within the scope of the PROEXT-PG Program, to reflect on the convergences and divergences between Public Communication of Science (CPC) and university extension projects. The activities sought to articulate the scientific production of postgraduate studies with extension practices aimed at popularizing science and dialogue with local communities. It was found that there are important points of convergence and divergence in this articulation. It is concluded that their full confluence depends on structural changes in the academic culture, the valorization of extension as an inseparable function of teaching and research, and the adoption of more inclusive communicational practices.
