Abstract

This article analyzes the “Women of Cotton” initiative (+Cotton project/Brazil-FAO), which sought to raise the visibility of rural women's work in the Latin American cotton chain through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Communication for Development. A qualitative, descriptive methodology is proposed, based on the categorization of essential conditions for social change (Gumucio-Dagron, 2011). The results indicate that ICTs strengthen visibility, networking, and participation, but the analyzed initiative blends vertical features with innovative proposals, pointing to the process's challenges and possibilities.
