Abstract

Regarding the strategic role, though not always recognized, that theory and research have had in the academic field of communication in Latin America, this article highlights some relationships between global and regional historical contexts and the thematic, methodological, and bibliographic references of the papers presented between 2000 and 2024 in the corresponding ALAIC working group. Perhaps, on this basis, illuminating hypotheses could be developed about the historical processes of constitution of what has been called, not always critically, “Latin American communication thought” by other frameworks.
